movie inspiration: The Village

With all the pretty new capes and coat styles for Winter, the trend for staying warm and toastie this Winter really made me think about the mustard yellow coloured hooded capes that the characters wore in the creepy M. Night Shyamalan movie, The Village. Bryce Dallas Howard and Joaquin Phoenix went berry picking in the woods, trying to avoid "those we do not speak of". Those villagers were way ahead of the trend back in 2004!

London Affordable Art Fair 21-24 October 2010

I'm pleased to let you know that Mengsel's original silkscreen prints will be for sale at the London Affordable Art Fair in Battersea Park from Thursday 21 October until Sunday 24 October. A wide selection of Mengsel silkscreen prints will be available to purchase framed or unframed and will be exhibited with Hackney based gallery DegreeArt.com. Be sure to check out their stand at the fair. This is a great opportunity for Londoners to see my print work from up close.

When Will Ramsay founded the fair in 1999 his aim was to make contemporary art accessible to everyone, and to show you don’t need to be an art expert or a millionaire to enjoy and buy art. Ten years on The Affordable Art Fair is the leading showcase in the UK for contemporary art under £3,000 having welcomed over 430,000 visitors who have bought £73 million of art.

"Robots in love" silkscreen print in Delft Blue by Mengsel

Mengsel silkscreen print featured in Coast Magazine

Coast is a monthly UK magazine dedicated to living by the seaside and feature homes, travel, food, property, gardens and health & beauty. Gorgeous magazine with beautiful photographs. I was delighted when I flipped through the November 2010 issue and discovered Mengsel's "Bigger Boat" silkscreen print in a beautifully shot Christmas shopping spread. The shoot was set up to look like a Christmas advent calender (loved those with the chocolates behind each door as a child). Each one contains a covetable, seaside-inspired treat.

The "Bigger Boat" silkscreen print is available to purchase in The Mengsel Shop. Also available in a yellow wave colour option.

A big thanks to lovely stylist Poppy Norton. You can have a look at her styling work at her website:  poppynorton.com

leaving on a jetplane

I'm very lucky and fortunate to visit Amsterdam again this weekend with loads of friends. My husband is running the marathon and I'm running the much tamer 8km run. My first run ever. Fingers crossed. I'm really at my happiest when travelling. Back in the day, travelling by air was a real luxury and people used to go all out and dress up for the occasion, so here's a few vintage travel inspired finds from Etsy:

Happy weekend! Brand new silkscreen print from Mengsel: "Nightingale"

"The nightingale, their only vesper-bell, sung sweetly to the rose the day's farewell."
- Lord Byron, The Island (canto II, XV, 57)

Sweet "Nightingale" silkscreen print. Hand pulled with chartreuse and black water-based ink. From an original ink illustration. The contrast between the chartreuse and black came out really nicely and I had a lot of fun screenprinting this edition of 40 in my studio yesterday.

Available in The Mengsel shop and my Etsy shop.

red red red

Finally managed to photograph and list the red Moka Express print that I did last week. Complete one off, only available in Mengsel's Etsy shop. I just love the contrast of the white on the deep red and the texture of the Fabriano Tiziano paper. Still playing around with my new camera and discovering new settings. Fun!

Moka Express silkscreen print featured in Danish interiors magazine BoligLIV

So happy that Mengsel's Moka Express silkscreen print has been featured in the October issue of beautiful Danish interiors magazine BoligLIV. As you all know, I'm a big admirer of Scandinavian style and design and I'm just honoured to be mentioned. BoligLIV is not available in the UK, so thank you Kristina for sending me a copy from Copenhagen.

Every sillkscreen print from Mengsel is unique, as it is printed by hand by myself in the studio. Available in a variety of colours in The Mengsel Shop and my Etsy shop.
